IT support for law firms and solicitors
Managed IT for small and mid-sized practices across London and Essex. Client confidentiality, client money and case files depend on your systems behaving — we make sure they do, and that you can show it.
Why legal IT is a different job
Most IT problems cost a firm time. In a law firm they can cost a client their deposit, a partner their practising certificate, or the firm its insurance cover. The technical work is not exotic — the consequences are.
- Payment redirection fraud is aimed squarely at conveyancing. A compromised or spoofed mailbox, an intercepted completion statement, and money leaves for the wrong account. Email controls are not an optional refinement here.
- Client account access needs to be provable. Multi-factor authentication, separated permissions and logs that show who did what — and that survive being asked about a year later.
- Case management systems are the practice. When the system is slow or unavailable, fee earners stop earning. Recovery time matters more than backup size.
- Confidentiality follows the file everywhere. Home working, personal devices and personal cloud accounts quietly move privileged material outside your control.
- Insurers and accreditation ask questions. Professional indemnity renewals and Lexcel assessments increasingly want documented information-security controls, tested backups and an incident response plan — not assurances.
What we look after
Day to day
- Microsoft 365 email, files and licences, kept in order as people join and leave
- The computers, networks and connections your case and practice management system runs on. The software itself stays with your provider; the devices, access, connectivity, printing and scanning around it are ours
- Secure remote and hybrid working, including document handling off site
- Workstations, laptops and mobile devices, encrypted and patched
- Business-grade internet with a fallback, and phones that reach you when the office does not
Where the risk sits
- Multi-factor authentication on every account, including anything touching client money
- Email filtering, impersonation protection and controls that make an intercepted bank detail far harder to act on
- Access separated by role, reviewed rather than assumed, with retained logs
- Backups that are separate from the live system and restored as a test, not in an emergency
- Short, practical training on the frauds that target legal staff specifically
On SRA and Lexcel, plainly
We are an IT provider, not compliance consultants, and we will not claim that hiring us makes your firm compliant. Compliance is yours; the technical controls underneath it can be ours.
In practice that means the IT side of what assessors and insurers ask about: documented controls, enforced authentication, tested restores, a written incident response process and evidence that these things are real. If your firm holds or is working towards Lexcel, we can align the technology requirements of Section 7 and put the supporting evidence where your COLP can reach it.
Find out where you actually stand
Our free IT health check reviews your current setup and returns a written summary: what is solid, what is exposed, and what a professional indemnity insurer would ask about first. No obligation afterwards.
Managed support starts at £50 per user per month for cloud-only firms, or £75 per user where you run your own servers, with a minimum of £300 per month. Our prices are published rather than quoted on request.
